TANYA is the celebrated fundamental work of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi (1745-1812), the First Chabad Rebbe, also known as the Alter Rebbe, disciple of the great Bal Shem Tov, the originator of the Chassidic Movement. It is the principle written articulation of the Chabad philosophy and the Chabad approach to Kabbalistic Chasidic mysticism.
First published 1797. Earliest extant edition 1814.

The Tanya compacts four millennia of Jewish wisdom to answer the great personal and existential questions of life. It has revolutionized the way we think about God, the human soul, the world and our place in it.

Take this rare opportunity to study a great philosophical work, a foundation stone of Chassidus, with Rabbi Moshe Hecht in a relaxed atmosphere together with students of diverse backgrounds.

This is not a lecture course. Each student receives a copy of the book with English translation. Participants read the assigned chapter ahead of time and are encouraged to e-mail in with particular questions or comments. Then, once a week, the class gathers for an hour's discussion of the material with the rabbi. Gatherings are held on Monday evenings in the homes of participants. Refreshments and Tito's are served

Bilingual text $20. There is no fee for the class. Contributions are welcome
